RiverVail Ranch
Overview
RiverVail Ranch is a 1,000-acre working bison ranch and nature preserve in Errol, New Hampshire, just east of Dixville Notch in the Great North Woods. Often called "New Hampshire's Yellowstone," the ranch has raised bison since 1995 and is now home to herds of 100% grass-fed bison and elk, along with red stag, pheasant, grouse and white-tailed deer.
Hunters can book three-hour upland bird hunting slots for pheasant and grouse or join a driven pheasant tower shoot. Anglers can fly fish Clear Stream, home to wild brook and brown trout, and five private trout ponds (catch and release). More than 15 miles of trails are open for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with a $20 day pass, and guided ranch tours bring visitors close to the bison and elk herds. Snowmobilers have direct trail access on Corridor 18.
Stay on the ranch at the Damm House Inn, a restored four-bedroom farmhouse with a wraparound porch, the Hayloft bungalow, the Nook suite with mountain views, or a rustic streamside cabin. Dogs are welcome in select units. The Androscoggin River and Lake Umbagog are five minutes away.
RiverVail Ranch is open to the public. Hunting, fly fishing and biking require a reservation and grounds fee. Individual and corporate memberships add year-round access and discounted pricing, and grass-fed bison and elk meat is available from the ranch.
Open year-round. Spring brings new bison calves to the pastures. Summer and early fall are prime for fly fishing, hiking, biking and guided wildlife tours. Fall is upland bird season, with pheasant and grouse hunts and driven tower shoots set against Great North Woods foliage. In winter, guests cross-country ski and snowshoe the groomed trails or ride straight onto snowmobile Corridor 18 from the ranch.
